The importance of gender

This week we learned about the importance of gender and how it impacts us personally and family relations. We also talked about homosexuality and how it develops. In our studies this week we learned about males who were the youngest child in their family. They had a higher chance of homosexual feelings and distance from parents because of comparisons to their older siblings. Especially in cultures where physical prowess is considered important. This demonstrates how important it is to develop relationships of trust within the family. We should learn to be supportive of each other and treasure the things that make us different. Guys who are more sensitive or artistic should own that. Comparison simply robs us of the joy of being ourselves. Having self-love is such an important part of being able to love others. When you find peace of conscious with who you are, you are put in a better place to look outside of yourself and love others.

Gender Roles: In the family a proclamation to the world, the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints detailed the importance of the family and the right that children have to birth within the bonds of matrimony. It talks about how our genders are part of our spiritual identity and are of great importance. We were sons and daughters of God before this earthly life and should treasure that part of us. Men and women are equal and compliment each other. I have always had so much respect for women. My mom is one of the best people Ive ever met and Ive always done my best to treasure and respect her. She is so talented in so many ways and is so kind and caring. She does a wonderful job nurturing and raising her kids and I love her to death at that. Anyone who degrades women need to change their mindset.

My dad has been a great example to me of hard work and dedication to his family. He is our family’s protector and taught me how to be a man. By working together according to their different roles and skills, they made a harmonious home for me and my siblings. Throughout the past decades, the ideals of the family have been damaged and changed according to the world’s standards. Increases in opportunity for women to work jobs and pursue careers is wonderful! They deserve it and in no way has that damaged the family. I want to address that directly. Women deserve to have the same opportunity as males. What has been harmful is the medias portrayal of the flaws in genders. Increasingly men are depicted as dumb, unfaithful creatures. This undermines the father figure and is not helpful to the family. They depict women as shallow objects. This also is inexcusable and diminishes the wonderful angels that women are. As media has redefined the family stereotype, we find an increasing level of distrust and marital problems unlike anything we have seen before.

Whenever this topic is breached, I wonder to myself what is to be done? Change starts within our own families. We must work together within marriages to raise our children. We must realize our differences and use them in harmony. We should use social media to project positive things about our families and the love we share. We should pay less attention to celebrities that make a mockery of family values and focus more on our various religions and becoming better. I love the family. I know that God created them to bring us joy and support us as we grow. If we treasure them, they can be a huge part of our lives.
